Thousands of South Africans have taken to the streets to demand the resignation of President Jacob Zuma, whose reputation has been tarnished by a string of scandals.

Demonstrators chanted ‘Zuma must go’ in Johannesburg in footage broadcast by the television station eNCA. Rallies were also staged in Pretoria, Cape Town and Port Elizabeth.

Zuma has come under growing criticism for scandals involving women; the use of taxpayer money to upgrade his home; and his firing of a popular finance minister that sent the country’s currency into free fall last week.
